With impending final exams, colder weather every day, and nearing holidays, most students are ready for winter break.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But what about you?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Maybe your semester has been lackluster. Maybe you feel like you can\u2019t connect with the community your school is located. Maybe you just feel overwhelmed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">College is supposed to be enjoyable. Academic stress will still occur, but overall, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.winona.edu\/campus-life\/clubs.asp\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">you want to be able to look back on your college experience and enjoy it<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. And where you are right now, you may not be sure if you can see that future happening.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At Winona State University, you can make that future happen.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Transferring schools can seem overwhelming but at WSU, the process is actually quite simple.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>There are just <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.winona.edu\/admissions\/undergraduate\/transfer.asp\"><b>four steps to transferring<\/b><\/a><b> to WSU:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Complete the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.winona.edu\/admissions\/undergraduate\/apply.asp\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">online application<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pay the $20 application fee\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Send your transcript if you aren\u2019t coming from a MnSCU (Minnesota State Colleges and Universities) system school<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Change the school code if you receive financial aid<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>\u201cWhen you don\u2019t know what you don\u2019t know, it can seem overwhelming and scary,\u201d says Gale Lanning, Assistant Director for Transfer Admission. \u201cWe\u2019re all here to help.\u201d<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Okay, so the transfer process isn\u2019t as crazy as you had thought. But why choose Winona?<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>\u201cWe\u2019re a \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.winona.edu\/admissions\/blog\/not-too-big-not-too-small-smedium\/\">smedium<\/a>\u2019 campus,\u201d says Lanning. \u201cWe have a bigger campus feel with small class sizes, meaning that students get more one-on-one time with professors, not TAs or graduate assistants.\u201d<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Small class sizes are a necessity for making learning personalized, individual, and meaningful.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_15155\" style=\"width: 1290px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.winona.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/Cover-Amy-Nelson-20.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-15155\" class=\"wp-image-15155 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.winona.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/Cover-Amy-Nelson-20.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"720\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-15155\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo by Amy Nelson &#8217;20<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For Leigh Mark, a graduate student in the English Literature and Language program, connections with faculty have made a huge difference. After attending WSU for a semester, transferring to two other colleges, and then transferring back, it was her relationships with professors that brought her back four years later.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>\u201cMy first semester back was hard,\u201d says Mark, \u201cbut talking with my adviser gave me comfort. I knew classes would be hard, but I would be okay.\u201d<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Though Leigh\u2019s story doesn\u2019t follow the conventional college plan, her decision to return is because of the faculty.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>\u201cI like working with my professors. They encouraged me to stay after completing my undergraduate degree and write my thesis,\u201d she says.<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">WSU\u2019s allure isn\u2019t unique to Leigh\u2019s experience, either.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>\u201cWSU is #1 in the MnSCU system for retention,\u201d says Lanning. \u201cStudents here feel comfortable and successful, and every department plays a role in that.\u201d<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Academics are perhaps the most obvious facet of college life, but not the only\u2014and, arguably, not the most important. What students do in their lives outside of class plays a major part in their college experience, and for a city many prospective students have never heard of, their options may seem limited.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>What students may not realize on a <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/UeoFuvYQ0Tc\">campus tour<\/a> is what Winona has to offer. There are many arts and cultural events, including the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mmam.org\/\">Minnesota Marine Art Museum<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/grsf.org\/\">Great River Shakespeare Festival<\/a>. As Lanning says, \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.winona.edu\/campus-life\/winona.asp\">the land around you is an opportunity<\/a>.\u201d<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here at Winona State, you\u2019re not just a student ID number.
