I can’t count how many times I hear residents say, “Wait, you live on this floor?” to someone sitting next to them at an event. It’s so easy for us to get trapped in the simple cycle of going to class, studying, and sleeping.
You might ask, where’s the fun in college? Well, friends, look no further! Every Resident Assistant on campus puts on events that everyone is welcome to, even if you don’t live in that hall.
What are these events all about?
Events can take place in the lounge, somewhere on campus, or even around Winona and are always free! They happen weekly in the residence halls and are the perfect opportunity to make friends. It’s always interesting to see who you might have class with that also lives on your floor or in your building. Once you go outside of your comfort zone, connecting with other residents during these events opens the door to friendships and study buddies!
RAs around campus put on events such as “Madden in the Halls” with food and lots of gaming, a “Flower Pot Party” for planting seeds together, and even spa nights for practicing self-care with one another.
How can you get involved?
I encourage you to attend your RA’s events or any Housing and Residence Life events—even Hall Council! Some upcoming programs are:
- “Craft It Tuesdays” on third floor in Haake Hall. The first one is Feb. 26, 2019 from 3:30-5:30pm. Each Tuesday (once a month) you can do a new craft and DIY things such as bookmarks, vision boards, and dorm decorations.
- “Anti-Oscars Night” in the Lourdes Commons on Feb. 23, 2019 from 8-11pm. Three RAs from Lourdes Hall will have a red carpet, a photo wall, and a live piano player at the beginning before playing films.
- “Identi-tea” in Shepard Hall on the first floor on Feb. 28, 2019 from 7-9pm. Attendees will be provided with tea, magazines, and other craft supplies to create an identity collage. Bring your own mug and any Pinterest inspiration!
Take a step into the eventful world of college—the door is wide open! We hope to see you at these events. Come alone to meet new friends or bring your friends for a good time!
