Sadly, there is no actual spring break at WSU this year. Instead, the university has decided to turn our would-be spring break into single spring break days spread throughout the semester.
With our busy schedules and often enormous workloads, the anticipation of a week-long break in the warming spring weather is one of the motivations we often need to make it through the halfway point of the semester.
Now with that gone, it’s kind of a bummer.
However, these spring break days––although not a perfect substitute––do help with a little stress relief.
Now, if you’re thinking “What can I possibly do in a single free day?” you aren’t alone. So, here are some ways you can make the most of your spring break day!
1. Catch Up on Some Spring Cleaning
I know, I know, no one likes to clean. And even having this on a list of things to do on a day off seems like a buzzkill. But sometimes cleaning can make your mood so much better. It can help you declutter your life physically––and mentally.
Turn on your favorite music, wash some dishes, do some sweeping, clean your room, or clean out your car, and take your mind off school.
Also, don’t forget to declutter your digital life. Delete old files off your computer, organize your desktop, or delete old photos, texts, and messages off your phone. Clear up all that digital space for new things!
2. Get Outside
With warmer weather approaching, it’s now easier to spend more time outside. After being cooped up inside all winter in front of our computers, it’s nice to get one extra day where we can spend time outdoors.
If you’re in Winona, consider going for a walk around the lake or hiking on the nearby trails. Find a friend or two and do these things together!
It doesn’t need to be an intense workout, just relax and enjoy the outdoors––and spend time away from your computer.
3. Do That One Thing That’s Been on Your Mind
We all have that one thing.
It might be something important like updating your resume, calling to make an appointment, or grocery shopping. Or it might be something less important that you’ve wanted to do but haven’t had the time like watching a certain movie or making your favorite meal or food.
Whatever it is, do it!
Dedicate this day to doing something you never seem to have time for during the week.
4. Catch Up on Schoolwork
I know, fun, right?
But dedicating a day to catching up––or working ahead––on schoolwork can help relieve stress the rest of the week.
Maybe you’ll just read one extra chapter, or write one or two more pages, or maybe you’ll feel the motivation to crank out multiple assignments.
Whatever you do, do it leisurely, and don’t forget to reward yourself later.
Be productive, but don’t stress out.
These are just a few ways you can make the most of your spring break day. Personally, I plan to use my spring break day to get some extra sleep, catch up on schoolwork, and do a few chores in between.
No matter what you decide to do on your spring break day, enjoy the day off!
