Jamie was just four years old when Jessica had her first of four total liver transplants.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><b>\u201cWith each transplant, I grew more involved in her care and became her personal nurse at home. I even used to leave a bell in her room for her to ring if she needed anything.\u201d<\/b><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">As Jamie\u2019s involvement in her sister\u2019s care increased, the greater she personally recognized and appreciated the impact nurses can have on people\u2019s lives. After Jessica passed away in 2013, Jamie was determined to turn her dream of studying nursing into a reality\u2014and what better place to do so than Winona?<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><b>Well-Equipped Training Goes a Long Way<\/b><\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">While reflecting on her college education, Jamie described just how incredible a job WSU does with preparing students for their careers in nursing.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Students receive hands-on experience in their field through hospital clinical rotations each semester. Additionally, students in their third and fourth term of the nursing program complete their community health clinical.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Jamie completed her clinicals at a variety of institutions, including:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.winonahealth.org\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Winona Health<\/span><\/a><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gundersenhealth.org\/locations\/medical-clinics\/winona-campus\/winona\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Gundersen Health System<\/span><\/a><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.childrensmn.org\/locations\/minneapolis\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Children\u2019s Hospital and Clinics in Minneapolis<\/span><\/a><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bridgeshealthwinona.org\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Bridges Health Winona<\/span><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">These experiences have given Jamie the opportunity to work with people of all ages, from diverse cultures and with different levels of acuity. She believes her <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.winona.edu\/nursingandhs\/default.asp\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">courses and clinicals<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> have prepared her well to enter the nursing profession and achieve success.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><b>A Leader Making Connections on Her Downtime<\/b><\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">During her time at WSU, Jamie was active in the nursing field in and out of the classroom. She has been a part of the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/groups\/141139680071564\/?ref=bookmarks\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Winona State Nursing Club<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> for two years. She has also held a leadership position in the organization as MSNA Chair for one year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Through this pre-professional club, Jamie had the opportunity to attend a conference hosted by the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.google.com\/view\/minnesotasna?fbclid=IwAR0xj6fo_nG8klcRR-47AFgXk-h11gP9VlC96_0Uc1Q9vjRU8Avg0VO_-DQ\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Minnesota Student Nurses\u2019 Association<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> last year. The conference allowed her to network with other nursing students and nursing professionals\u2014a moment that marked a significant milestone in her journey.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><b>Why Study Nursing, Anyway?<\/b><\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Beside her personal connection to nursing, Jamie believes studying and working in her field greatly improves our world.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><b>\u201cI am not only given the opportunity to individually help people in the hospital, but also positively impact them on a societal level.\u201d<\/b><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Ultimately, nursing is a discipline that is constantly adapting to the world\u2019s needs, so it is something that will keep Jamie on her toes and guessing what\u2019s next.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><b>On to the Next Chapter<\/b><\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Jamie has accepted her dream job as an RN on the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mhealth.org\/care\/overarching-care\/transplant-services-adult\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">solid organ transplant<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> floor at the University of Minnesota Clinical Center, which she will pursue following commencement and passing her boards exams.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><b>\u201cI am incredibly excited to work alongside many of the nurses who provided care for my sister and ultimately inspired me to study nursing.\u201d<\/b><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">And to think it all began with a dream\u2014follow yours at Winona State University!<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; It All Began with a Dream &nbsp; Jamie Reynolds, a Fall 2019 graduate, was inspired to become a nurse after witnessing the impact care teams had on her late older sister Jessica.
