Cold and dark, feeling cooped up and restless. Winter can partner negative feelings leaving you feeling “blue”. Many people encounter seasonal mood disorders and struggle to find effective ways of overcoming these emotional barriers.
Being “seasonally-affected” is not uncommon and has been recognized as a treatable issue. There are a variety of suggestions available to those seeking guidance. If you’re reading this you’re on your way to becoming more knowledgeable for the benefit of yourself or others.
Here are just a few of the plentiful methods for establishing a positive mindset through the winter months (or in general):
- Make time for yourself. Go beyond the daily grind and stimulate your mind with something that interests you. Commit to an activity that you are comfortable and happy doing.
- Mindfulness. I’m sure we’ve all heard it before, but true happiness comes from within. Let your inner sunshine shine through to yourself and those around you. Reassure yourself day-to-day by focusing on the unique and beautiful traits you have to offer.
- Overcome “I Don’t Feel Like It” Syndrome. Become mentally strong by realizing you have a choice. The ultimate decision maker is YOU. Be conscious of these choices and how they will affect us for better or worse.
Don’t let winter intimidate you this year, instead challenge yourself to try something new, stay positive or go out on a limb. Life offers boundless opportunities and winter is great time to explore outside the box.
