Even though you\u2019ll have much needed down time, going home for break isn\u2019t always smooth sledding. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"TextRun SCXW228173737 BCX0\" lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" data-contrast=\"none\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW228173737 BCX0\">It is bittersweet going home for my final winter break, as my college career is coming to a near end. <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW228173737 BCX0\">However, for some<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW228173737 BCX0\">, <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW228173737 BCX0\">their experience may not be entirely sweet, and maybe a tad more bitter, so below I<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW228173737 BCX0\"> have<\/span> <span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW228173737 BCX0\">listed<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW228173737 BCX0\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW228173737 BCX0\">a few<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW228173737 BCX0\"> tips that have helped me get through break in the past.<\/span><\/span><span class=\"EOP SCXW228173737 BCX0\" data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335551550&quot;:1,&quot;335551620&quot;:1,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_blurb title=&#8221;Ask what your \u201cat home\u201d boundaries are. &#8221; content_max_width=&#8221;100%&#8221; admin_label=&#8221;Boundaries&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;4.19.0&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p>For a lot of us, college offers us quite a bit of freedom that we typically do not have back home. It is important to go over expectations with whoever you may be staying with to avoid any conflict or misunderstandings. As annoying as it may sound, it is their roof so you should follow their rules or make compromises. Let&#8217;s not forget the perks though, free food, laundry, quality time and most importantly, NO SCHOOL!\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Some questions you should ask yourself or discuss with your family are&#8230;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Do you have a curfew while you\u2019re home? <br \/>Are there family obligations or events you should plan around? <br \/>What chores are you expected to help with?<\/p>\n<p>You may be off scot-free while living at home, but if not, a reminder might be nice BEFORE you get in trouble for breaking an old rule you forgot about.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_blurb][et_pb_blurb title=&#8221;Cut Out the Naughty Words&#8221; content_max_width=&#8221;100%&#8221; admin_label=&#8221;Naughty Words&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;4.19.0&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; module_alignment=&#8221;center&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p>I have been known to have a little bit of a potty mouth while at school. But I remember going home my freshman year when I forgot to match my mouth to my environment and my father\u00a0wasn\u2019t pleased.<\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">Here are some curse word alternatives to replace the language you may have grown accustomed to <\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\"><em>(and yes, it&#8217;s okay to laugh at these)<\/em>: <strong>holy cow<\/strong><\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\"><strong>, bologna, fudge nuggets, son of a gun, shucks, darn, shoot, my goodness<\/strong>. These will come in handy when you want to tell the story of the time your bratty roommate wouldn\u2019t do her darn dishes for goodness&#8217; sake. What the heck! Oh, the joy of explaining why you did poorly in an art class. \u201cIt wasn\u2019t art, Mom, it was art history, and I don\u2019t do well with memorizing dates and names.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">If the heat is too much to handle, just deflect by bringing up one of your sibling\u2019s screw ups (if you are an only child then I don\u2019t know what to tell you.) Just kidding \u2014 but having an adult discussion about grades and how to improve them can show maturity. Your parents could have much needed wisdom to share with you. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">However, for those who have parents with high expectations, please keep in mind that <strong>you are doing your best<\/strong>. Which is great \u2013 BUT your family misses you too. If you have younger siblings like I do, you know how much of a pain they can be when they want your attention \u2013 try to compose your patience and offer some quality time, it\u2019ll mean more than you realize!<\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">Some ideas to bond with your siblings or parents or guardians could be family game nights, movie nights, craft nights, cooking parties, or outdoor activities (such as sledding, if there is enough snow at least)!<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335551550&quot;:1,&quot;335551620&quot;:1,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">It may take some adjusting for your family to get used to having another body around the house again.
