Before the end of the year, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2018\/12\/21\/new-years-resolutions-last-exactly-this-long\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">80% of people break their resolutions.<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">It\u2019s completely normal; breaking old routines to create new ones demands work every day.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Adding a weekly gym regimen might not seem like a challenge on paper, but actually trying to fit it into your schedule requires work.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">So what do you do if you <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">do <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">drop your resolutions?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Keep going.<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Making resolutions is easy, but it\u2019s also easy to make them too lofty to be realistic.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Instead of shooting for going to the gym five days a week for an hour, shoot for a half hour, or shoot for three days a week.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">As with any project, the end goal is not the first step. No one plans for obstacles, but they are inevitable.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Design your resolution to let you be adaptable to any sudden wrenches thrown your way.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter \" src=\"https:\/\/media.giphy.com\/media\/rYEAkYihZsyWs\/giphy.gif\" width=\"508\" height=\"388\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><b>Be patient with yourself.<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">If you want to teach yourself to become a better artist, it can be crushing to see how little progress you may make in a month, especially when looking at other artists\u2019 work.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In the words of Teddy Roosevelt, \u201cComparison is the thief of joy.\u201d Getting better at anything is a process, and everyone\u2019s process is different.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Comparing your journey to another\u2019s will more than likely set you up for disappointment. Instead, focus your energy on your progress and your journey.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter \" src=\"https:\/\/media.giphy.com\/media\/d7oagnbs7P3fuk0vYw\/giphy.gif\" width=\"528\" height=\"274\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><b>Think about the reason you made it.<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Maybe it was to be healthier, start a new hobby, or get out of your comfort zone.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Many people make resolutions to better themselves in one way or another. If this is why you chose your resolution, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">keep with it<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">If your resolution has less-than-healthy motivations, maybe it\u2019s not worth it to fulfill the goal. If you tell yourself you want to exercise more to get in better shape, that\u2019s healthy and worth following.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">However, if you think you need to exercise more as a compulsion or a necessary prerequisite for health, your workouts may develop into a self-destructive habit.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Being honest with yourself about what you need and want for your own development is crucial to making resolutions that are worth sticking with.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">If you find yourself doing it for anyone else, it\u2019s far harder to stay motivated.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter \" src=\"https:\/\/media.giphy.com\/media\/aSZSj0mT8f6tW\/giphy.gif\" width=\"354\" height=\"344\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><b>Just keep going.<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Yep, I\u2019m gonna say it again\u2014you have to keep trying. Self-improvement requires continuous effort; if it didn\u2019t, there probably would be no tradition of resolutions.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">If you realize 12 months isn\u2019t enough time to reach your goal, reshape your plan. Keep your goal in sight.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Break parts of your plan into smaller portions. If your goal is to write a novel, you may find writing a chapter a week is okay for a while, but maybe you develop new ideas part way in.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Your next decision shouldn\u2019t be to stress about how to still write this novel before the end of December; it should be how to alter your goal.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">If you can, physically write down your plan as a to-do list. The act of crossing off items will provide a sense of accomplishment and boost motivation.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Changing your plan?
