Blurb” _builder_version=”4.6.6″ _module_preset=”default” width=”100%”]<\/p>\n What does the COVID vaccine do?\u00a0<\/span>The<\/span>\u00a0vaccine teaches your immune system how to recognize and fight the virus that causes COVID-19.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>The COVID-19 vaccine is highly recommended for<\/span><\/b>\u00a0most<\/span><\/b>, but it is not\u00a0<\/span>required<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n There are two approved COVID vaccines that are being administered in the United States,\u00a0<\/span>Pfizer<\/span><\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span>Moderna<\/span><\/a>. I have now received both doses of Pfizer\u2019s vaccine and the only side effect I have experienced is a sore arm, which resolved within\u00a0<\/span><\/span>48 hours<\/span><\/span>\u00a0after each dose. For life to return to \u201cnormal,\u201d herd immunity must be achieved. It is estimated that 80-90% of the population must become immune to COVID-19 for this to happen. Vaccines offer, in general, a safe way to achieve this. I encourage all to consider receiving a COVID-19 vaccine. Blurb” _builder_version=”4.8.1″ _module_preset=”default”]<\/p>\n Truthfully, there are still a\u00a0<\/span>couple<\/span>\u00a0things\u00a0that we\u00a0don\u2019t\u00a0know about the vaccine.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n We don\u2019t know your exact vaccine date just yet. Health & Wellness Services is working closely with the Minnesota Department of Health<\/span>\u00a0and local public health agencies are\u00a0<\/span>a<\/span>waiting\u00a0<\/span>notification of when the vaccines will become available for college students.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n We do know that once we you are eligible to receive your vaccine, you will be able to get vaccinated right on campus with the help from\u00a0WSU\u00a0nursing students.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Currently, all those that are vaccinated must continue to keep masking up, backing up, and washing up. Continue to follow the guidelines\u00a0regarding\u00a0<\/span>close contact<\/span><\/a>,\u00a0<\/span>quarantine<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>and isolation<\/span><\/a>.
