As a junior at WSU, freshman year is no longer fresh in my brain. So I reached out to a few underclassmen to get their perspective on WSU, their favorite part about freshman year, and their advice to incoming freshman. If you’re an incoming freshman to WSU, this blog is for you!
What is your favorite thing about WSU?
- “I love how connected we all are here at WSU!” –Matthew Romero-Salas
- “WSU has such a welcoming atmosphere that has made me feel so welcomed here since the first week” – Sydney Bennett
- “Because I got involved in so many things round campus I was able to make so many new connections here. I met people from all over and feel like I’m really getting out there and meeting some cool people”. – Jake Leskovar
- “I have had so many opportunities here because the campus is so small it gives you the chance to be involved in so many things”. – Maddy Trog
- “I love how small the classes are, I get so much one on one time with my professors and I feel like they really care about me and what I’m doing here at WSU”. – Tayler Stegath
What was your favorite thing about Freshman year?
- “Coming to WSU has given me an entirely new perspective of the world because before coming here I never really knew what else was out there” – Nina Lovecamp
- “I met so many people and it’s crazy to think that in just one year I was able to find so many people with the same interests as me”. – Alyssa Younker
- “Being a part of the Winonan! I have been able to share so many of my ideas and as a freshman I didn’t ever think I would be able to do as much as I do with the newspaper”. – Morgan Reddekopp

What advice do you have for incoming Freshman?
- “Learn how to do laundry for real before you get here!!!!!!!” “Wait… can I add more??? I could go on forever. Learn how to budget, get a planner and follow it, plan time to go to the library (and make yourself go!). Make sure to feed yourself and take care of your body!” – Forrest Seuser
- “Make sure to meet your neighbors! You’ll see them a lot so it’s super important to get to know them”. – Maddie Foss
- “Get involved! You’ll hear it a million times but that’s because it is so true. You’ll meet so many amazing people and have so many opportunities here at WSU!” – Kellen Brandt
- “Prepare yourself for the change. It is a really big change coming to college but it is really exciting and fun so just be ready for it”. – Natalie Tyler
- “Don’t feel like you have to do what everyone else is doing just because you have so much new freedom”. – Blake Gasner
