Winona Campus

Winona State University is located in Winona, Minnesota—a scenic and welcoming community nestled in the bluffs of the upper Mississippi River Valley.

The Winona campus has a mix of historic buildings and modern facilities for academics, support services, student life, and community events. 

It’s also home to nearly 1,000 students in our campus residence halls. 

Not to mention the city of Winona itself, which offers many recreational, cultural, and entertainment opportunities. 

This is all within easy driving distance of La Crosse in Wisconsin (about 30 minutes), Rochester (45 minutes), and Minneapolis-St. Paul (2 hours).

Parking
WSU has several parking lots on campus and at East Lake Apartments. 

These lots typically require parking permits throughout the entire calendar year. 

Purple and Silver lots on campus are free during the summer. WSU Parking Services monitor all lots, and any parking must comply with University regulations.

There’s always the option for street-parking. A few public parking lots are within walking distance of campus as well. 

Visitor Parking

As a visitor, you get VIP parking spots in front of Somsen Hall at Sanborn and Johnson streets. If these spaces are full, head over to the WSU Admissions Office and ask for a temporary permit for general WSU parking lots. 

For larger visit days and events, the WSU Admissions team may designate more parking for visitors.

Transportation around Winona

There’s plenty of options for getting around Winona easily without bringing your own car to campus.

Take a Walk
WSU Main Campus is in the center of Winona. 

Within 15 minutes, you can walk to banks, a grocery store, a movie theater, and to shops, restaurants, and coffee shops downtown.

The 2 lake parks are just blocks away from Main Campus as well.

Use a Bike

Take advantage of the bike paths and trails around Winona.

Many students bring their own bikes, and WSU offers free bike repair stations across campus and in the Lucas Hall basement, so you can keep your wheels in great condition.

If you don’t have a bike, you can rent one through the WSU Purple Bike program.
