As fundraising for the WSU Stadium Renovation continues, Winona State is busying itself with mapping out the plan of attack for the renovations themselves.
The plan itself has been broken out into four phases, with priorities set within each phase. Work will commence as follows, as funds become available.
Phase 1: Videoboard & Sound System
Price Tag: $900k
Phase 1 is officially underway! Up first – the videoboard in the South End Zone, with installment slated for late July. While a large-scale videoboard might sound like a luxury, it’s truly a necessity according to Head Football Coach Tom Sawyer. “It has become the primary element in facility design to enhance the game day experience and a state-of-the-art atmosphere,” Sawyer says. By impacting the game day experience so heavily, the full effect of adding the videoboard extends directly to recruitment and attracting more fans to the stadium – which in turn will increase revenue for the program through ticket sales and advertising opportunities.
Phase 2: South End Zone
Price Tag: $500k
Once the videoboard and sound system are up and running, attention will turn to the planned terrace seating and viewing areas at the South End Zone – creating a hub of activity for groups and alumni in a suite atmosphere and elevated seating extremely close to the action. This phase will also allow for the increase in stadium storage capacity.
Phase 3: East Grandstands
Price Tag: $2.8M
The bulk of the work will be done during Phase 3 of the project – and that will be to address the dire conditions of many amenities (or lack thereof) in the stadium itself. Adding seating for approximately 2,000 fans from end zone to end zone, renovating or adding locker rooms, public restrooms, concession stands, merchandise locations and ticket booths – making the game day experience dramatically more enjoyable for fans and student-athletes all around.
Phase 4: North Grandstands
Price Tag: $800k
Last, but certainly not least, will be the renovation of seating in the North end zone, where the grandstand will be turned into a student section fit for our loyal Warriors.
