Quarantine works.
The results of quarantine show it is one of the most effective ways we can keep our numbers down and our campus open.
For the third week in a row, our positive cases are down. This week’s data shows we’re at 49 active positive cases, which is down from 76 active positive cases the previous reporting period. See more details on WSU’s COVID-19 dashboard.
The sustained decline means Housing has adjusted its visitor policy to allow one overnight visitor who is living in another residence hall. Many hybrid and in-person classes can meet in modified classrooms; and facilities, like the IWC fitness center, are open by reservation.
We remain grateful to everyone who has taken personal responsibility and called Ask-a-Nurse, completed the daily self-assessment, the self-reporting form, gotten tested, quarantined or isolated.
These individuals have done a great service to our community’s health and wellbeing and our chances for staying on campus.
Thanksgiving Break Plans?
WSU administrators are holding conversations with faculty, campus health professionals, and others across campus in order to determine whether WSU classes resume remotely or hybrid after the Thanksgiving weekend.
To share your input, complete this brief post-Thanksgiving survey or contact your Student Senate representative.
Socializing Safely
With “back-up” – physical distancing – as a critical action for COVID-19 prevention, it can be hard to know how to socialize safely during a pandemic.
One of the safest ways to spend time with others in person is to get outdoors. The Student Union offers bike rental and yard games at no cost. Winona has lots of options, too. Here are six things to do outdoors in Winona this fall.
Join university-sponsored gatherings where safety precautions will be in place, like this Friday’s Kryzsko After Dark from 9pm – midnight, featuring Panda Express, prizes, mini golf and more. Or play foosball, ping pong, shuffleboard or billiards in the redesigned Student Union.
Join a club or organization. With more than 170 clubs – from rock climbing to video gaming, plus Greek life– our campus has something for everyone. Clubs are working directly with guidance from student activities staff to make sure they gather safely or connect online.
COVID-19 & Voting
Your voice matters. Not only on campus, but in your city, your state, and for the future of our country.
Voting in person on Tuesday, Nov. 3, is always an option. However, many cities, including Winona, are recommending absentee voting.
If you plan to vote absentee this election, go to mnvotes.org to get registered and get a ballot mailed to you. If you plan to vote from your hometown and live outside Minnesota, you can register at allintovote.org.
This Warriors Vote video was made by Mass Communications student Nick Besore ‘21.
Message from President Olson
President Olson updates campus on where we are now (level two/yellow COVID-19 safety level), addresses what campus will do after Thanksgiving break, and encourages students to get plugged into clubs and organizations, and to register to vote.
