Homecoming at WSU can be a whirlwind of events, people, and activities. Various clubs, organizations, and committees work together to provide an engaging, spirited, and safe Homecoming Week. Let’s take a look back through time and reflect on just how great Homecoming was this year.

What Homecoming Week Was Like
What an amazing Homecoming Week us Warriors had! To kick off the festivities, the Homecoming Committee hosted the Homecoming Royalty Coronation and Warrior’s Got Talent Show (featuring yours truly).
Zaria Smith from Student Senate and Julian Rodriguez from the Quad were crowned Homecoming royalty.

Zaria reflects on the crowning moment saying: “I never imagined myself being crowned homecoming royalty. It came as such a surprise, and I couldn’t have been more grateful for this opportunity and many others that Winona State University has offered me.”

As the week progressed, students had many opportunities to participate in Homecoming festivities. Winona State hosted a Game Day Experience, complete with games, food trucks, and contests. This led into the Homecoming football game against the University of St. Mary, where the Warriors pulled off an impressive win!

The Homecoming Committee put on a Homecoming Parade not only for students, but also for the Winona community.
Alison Croswell, treasurer of Student Council for Exceptional Children, looked back on walking in the parade with SCEC. She said, “It was amazing to walk with my friends and take part in showing the community how proud I am to be a Warrior.”

Our Warriors truly came through and stepped up to the plate to show their school spirit.
How We Did Homecoming Safely
Aside from simply participating in the Homecoming experiences, both Winona State University and the Winona Area community came together to ensure that the safety of WSU students remained the top priority. Housing and Residence Life posted signs in the residence halls, which gave information on how to stay safe during the week as well as resources available to students.
Winona’s police department even joined in on educating students. On Wednesday of Homecoming Week, Sergeant Jay Rasmussen came to campus to talk with WSU’s Student Senate about how to stay safe during Homecoming. This goes to show that the surrounding community values communication and involvement with the university.
Christina Melecio, president of Winona State Student Senate, stated in her letter published in the Winona Daily News that “our students have accomplished an undeniable amount of greatness.” This could not be more true.
Warriors responded to the investment from the community by participating in the Homecoming Clean Sweep. Over 175 students joined forces to clean up areas that may have been affected by Homecoming activities, which has now become an annual tradition.

Our Warriors showed a great deal of school spirit and responsibility both during and after Homecoming Week this year. Way to go, Warriors—this Homecoming was amazing. I can’t wait to see what we have in store next year!
