Frederick NdabaramiyeWinona State University-Rochester will host a screening of Rwandan speaker Frederick Ndabaramiye’s film “I Am Able” from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 22 at the Rochester Public Library. The event is free and open to the public.

Ndabaramiye comes to Minnesota from Africa to share his inspiring story of resilience, forgiveness and courage during the Rwandan genocide–a war that killed over 800,000 people.

Ndabaramiye was 15 years old and on his way to visit his uncle when the bus he was traveling on was ambushed by rebels from the 1994 Rwandan civil war. The rebels cut off his hands and left him for dead. Today, Ndabaramiye travels around the world to share his incredible story of survival. In addition to speaking about his experience during the Rwandan genocide, he is the subject of the documentary “I Am Able” as well as an artist.

This event is co-sponsored by Winona State University-Rochester, Rochester Community and Technical College, the Rochester Public Library, Frozen River Film Festival, and Cambria.
