LGBT Books to Prisoners is an organization based in Madison, WI that is run through volunteers and donations. They send free packages of books and educational materials to LGBTQ+ individuals across the United States that are incarcerated. With the mission to “acknowledge, and work against, the oppressive functions of the prison system,” these efforts of substantive solidarity are important to them as they recognize the little resources and materials incarcerated individuals – especially LGBTQ+ people – have. Given the numerous hardships they are subjected to, showing a caring community on the outside is crucial to their wellbeing.
