Homecoming 2020 & 2021

As you all likely know, Winona State made the decision in early August to postpone its Fall 2020 Homecoming celebration originally scheduled for Oct 8-11, 2020. While we were all disappointed, know that it was done out of an abundance of care and concern for the health and safety of our Warrior and Winona communities.

The university hopes to be able to plan a spring installment of the event, but also acknowledges that it may be out of our control due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We promise we will keep you updated on any new decisions made, but in the meantime, make sure you save the date for next fall’s homecoming, scheduled for Oct. 7-10, 2021.

Virtual Alumni Events

Now more than ever, it’s important to connect with each other. In light of COVID-19, we’ve created a few opportunities to connect virtually. One option? Tune in for live virtual yoga sessions this November and December with WSU student Josie Osowski!  Josie has been a fitness instructor in the Integrated Wellness Complex for over two years, and she looks forward to sharing her practice with you!  All sessions are saved to the Winona State University Alumni & Friends Facebook page, so if you can’t make it live, you can catch up at a time that’s convenient for you.

Find out when Josie’s next yoga sessions are, along with other upcoming virtual events.

New Professional Warrior Network

New alumni – this one’s for you! We know the transition from academics into a new profession can be difficult for new grads to navigate. That’s why our Alumni Engagement office has partnered with WSU Career Services to host a series of career readiness and professional development programs led by fellow WSU alumni with real world experience.  Coming up on November 19 7pm-8pm, you are invited to join us for Employment Benefits 101.

Find out more about the NPWN and register for upcoming sessions!

Distinguished Award Nominations

Know anybody committed to the University, its mission, or improving our world?  Consider nominating them for a Distinguished Award!  Categories include:  Alumni Achievement Award, Graduate of the Last Decade (GOLD) Award, Purple Pride Award for faculty or staff, and The Warrior Way Award for anyone that has volunteered significant time and talent to WSU.

Get more information about the Distinguished Awards and to nominate the best Warriors you know. Submissions are accepted year-round and reviewed in March.

WSU Baseball Players Association

WSU Baseball alumni are teaming up to Keep the Tradition Alive.  This year, 78 members joined the new Baseball Players Association and gifted over $15,000 to the team – over half of which was designated for the Warrior Endowed Baseball Scholarship.  Alumni are showing their support in other ways, too – three new scholarships have been established for the program, and the team hosted the annual Baseball Golf Outing fundraiser this fall with some alumni participants present.

On the tails of a recent major gift to WSU Baseball, the goal is to establish a total of 60 more scholarships to fully-fund the program.

Modeled after the existing Football and Baseball Players Associations, WSU’s other D2 athletic programs will have similar opportunities to reconnect athletic alumni to their teams.
