Heading home for winter break? Here are 5 things to think about:
1. Figure out what to pack:
Make a list of essential items you will need while you are home. The semester break is also a great time to take some stuff home that may be cluttering your room.
2. Set Boundaries:
Now that you have been on your own for a while, going back home may seem like a loss of independence, but it doesn’t have to be. Talk with your parents and set up some boundaries for how much independence you want while you are home. The important thing is to keep communication open!
3. Catch up with friends and family:
Winter break is the perfect time to hang out with people you might not have seen since you moved to WSU. Whether you visit family over the holidays or meet up with friends for a warm drink from Caribou, it is always good to reconnect with your loved ones.
4. Take time to relax and rejuvenate:
Winter break is all about taking time to recharge after fall semester and the stress of finals. Have a self-care day where you do what you want to do. Take some time to just lay around, curl up with a good book, or watch your favorite tv show. If you’d rather be more active, consider some fun Winter activities like sledding, skiing, or snowmobiling.
5. Gear up for a new semester:
Winter break is also a great time to get yourself ready for spring semester. Think about how you did during fall semester and figure out what you did well and what you could improve on. You could set goals for yourself, plan your schedule outside of classes, or just grab some textbooks before the semester starts.
