Everything You Need to Know about Transferring

Your official credit evaluation will be made available to you upon admission to WSU.

Transfer admission is based on college GPA and credits earned. See the specific criteria for transfer credits.

Your credits will transfer if one of the following applies:

  • You have 24 transferable credits
  • You have an associate (A.A.) degree from a regionally accredited
  • community college or university that was earned after May 1985
  • You have a bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S.)
  • You have completed a Minnesota Transfer Curriculum program

Have fewer than 24 transferable credits?

We’ll ask to see your high school transcripts and ACT score.

If you didn’t earn a degree before your transfer, you’ll still need to meet all general education and program requirements at WSU.

Technical Credits

Up to 16 credits may be transferred from a technical college and used as general electives.

The credits do not count toward a major, minor, cumulative GPA, or General Education requirement.

Some technical college courses may be approved as equivalent to WSU courses. Check Transferology for more guidance.

Returning Transfer Students

If you started at WSU and earned credits at another institution, you’re considered a returning transfer student.

You must fill out a Re-Enrollment Request.

Transfer Pathways

Why stop now? Earn your associate degree at a Minnesota State College, then earn your bachelor’s degree at WSU.

You’ll likely be accepted to Winona State if you’ve maintained a 2.4 GPA and completed 24-60 credits. You’ll be able to start your specific program once you reach 60 credits.

Specific admissions criteria may vary by program, so check with your admissions counselor first.
