Each year WSU and the Alumni Society recognize individuals for their outstanding commitment to the university and to improving our world. Distinguished Alumni Award recipients are graduates who have gone on to achieve prominence and who have made contributions to the university by bringing honor to themselves and WSU.
Schreiber graduated from Winona State in 1968 with a bachelor’s degree in nursing. After graduation, Schreiber received her master’s in cardiovascular nursing from the University of Alabama, Birmingham, in 1973. Additionally, she served at U.S. Army Hospitals in San Antonio, Texas, and Da Nang, Vietnam.
Schreiber is currently the Chief Nursing Officer and Vice President at Winter Haven Hospital in Winter Haven, Fla., where she has worked since 1979. Prior to becoming Chief Nursing Officer, Schreiber was a Clinical Nurse Specialist in critical care for 22 years, and Administrative Director of Research and Professional Practice.
In 2007, Schreiber was recognized by the American Nurses Credentialing Center with their Magnet Award, which recognizes quality patient care, nursing excellence and innovations in professional nursing practice. The Polk County Nursing Consortium also awarded her the Excellence in Management Award.
Schreiber has published numerous articles and presents frequently at national conferences. She is a member of many professional organizations, including the American Organization of Nurse Executives and the Florida Organization of Nurse Executives. She has also served on the board of directors for the Heartland Chapter of the American Association of Critical Care Nurses.
Schreiber has also stayed involved in her communities by serving on various boards for organizations such as Women’s Resource Center, Polk State College Nurse Advisory Board, and the Florida Southern College Nurse Advisory Board.
Schreiber enjoys spending time with her husband, three children and her three grandchildren.
